I was in your shoes!

After returning from a few years teaching English and traveling in Asia, I was completely lost.

It took me years to figure out what I was meant to do, but once I figured out my strengths, natural abilities, personality, interests, and values, I was off and running and had the confidence I needed to take the steps to build my career.

This is what drives me to want to help you.

I can help you identify the steps to successfully build a truly fulfilling career.

There are few things more frustrating than knowing you can make a strong contribution, but not realizing or understanding how to go about doing it.

When you are doing work that you enjoy,
are good at,
and in an environment where you can genuinely be yourself,
you’re in FLOW!

To achieve your FLOW we’ll:

>

Identify your natural abilities, strengths, and motivations so you can match your skills with ideal roles.

>

Understand your professional values, the contribution you’d like to make, and your purpose, making it easier to identify ideal companies, organizations, as well as next steps in your current career.

>

Know the role personality plays in career success and in determining the ideal leader, culture, and tribe where you can thrive.

>

Develop a concrete game plan with goals and exact next steps to prototype a few paths and know if it’s right.

>

Develop an effective message and networking techniques to help you figure it out and build a network for your short and long-term career goals.

>

Learn how to conduct successful informational interviews and what questions to ask.

>

Figure out when you’re energized and engaged as well as when you’re drained.

>

Know your problem solving abilities and communication style and explore combinations of abilities and how to leverage them.

Have someone right by your side who can provide the accountability so you can successfully take the next steps to building a fulfilling career.

Shawn's method of identifying my strengths, talents, skills, and personality type was incredibly insightful.

Fast forward a few months later and I entered a coding bootcamp. I continued to meet with Shawn for both interview prep and professional development throughout the process. His interview preparation was invaluable and with his help I recently landed my dream job as a Software Engineer.

Working with Shawn has completely changed my life for the better."

You’ll go away with a whole new toolkit

Purpose

If you understand your purpose, career success and fulfillment comes easy.
I will take you through a series of questions to determine what you want to accomplish as you take your next steps.  When you understand your purpose, you will be more engaged, motivated, and productive in your work.

Natural Abilities

To uncover your natural abilities, you’ll take the Highlands Ability Battery.
This an objective assessment that takes your through timed work samples to determine your strengths and what you naturally do well. How do you solve problems; synthesize information; see the logical sequence of events; develop ideas; understand interpersonal systems; and many more abilities will be explored.  The reports provide analysis on combinations of abilities and what careers may be ideal based on your strengths.

Motivations and Values

I will take you through exercises to determine your motivations and values and how you stack rank them. Impact, ownership, pressure, prestige, challenge, creativity, autonomy, community, and influence are some of the many values and motivations you will explore to identify what is intrinsically important to you.

Personality

One of the most important components of career success is to find a job where you can genuinely and truly be yourself and leverage your personality to thrive in an occupation that needs and appreciates what you uniquely bring to the table.  The right job makes you pop out of bed in the morning, it enriches your life, and reflects who you are as a person. I utilize the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and we will begin to explore career options that may be suitable based on your personality.

Goal Setting

At the end of our first phase of meetings, we will determine a few paths that may be ideal to explore. This is the prototyping or experimentation phase.  We’ll set concrete goals and develop action items so you know the exact next steps you need to take to determine a strong fit. I will have you prepare a number of goals worksheets and utilize a software program that will help you visualize your goals and make the tasks easier to achieve.
Networking, Messaging, and Accountability
The final phase of our work can be difficult and always involves connecting with people to learn more and lay the foundation for your next step. We’ll work on networking techniques and the ideal methods to reach out as well as craft your story and message as you’re connecting with people.  I will provide a list of ideal questions to ask as well as templates to use as a guide as you’re reaching out. Finally, I will hold you accountable to your goals.

The career coaching package usually involves six meetings,
but is easily tailored to individual needs.

I had the privilege of working with Shawn and I must say my experience was far above what I could have ever imagined it would be.

His incredible listening skills paired with the great ability of helping you understand how to walk confidently in your professional truth is a unique gift.

Shawn loves what he does and you will undoubtedly love the value-added coaching you receive from him."

Neph D. Director

Bates Technical College

Shawn recently coached me through a turning point in my career, and his guidance was instrumental in helping me identify my next step - and then land it. He consistently brought forth a new perspective on things I thought I'd considered from every angle, which not only helped me sharpen my career focus and avoid pitfalls in my interview, but also helped me grow as a person. The benefits I've gotten from my sessions with Shawn extend well beyond my professional life. I couldn't recommend him more highly to someone looking for career guidance."
